Union Officials from Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1181 which represents a large portion of the city's yellow school bus drivers told the New York Daily News that their drivers have voted to strike against Reliant Bus Company.
The union drivers are upset because the latest state budget failed to include job protections.
Local 1181 President, Michael Cordiello said that the workers voted to strike because Reliant would not agree to pay drivers the same salaries and benefits.
A spokesperson for Reliant said the company can't provide raises and competitive benefits for bus workers until the state legislature writes them into law.
A de Blasio spokesperson said their administration is encouraging lawmakers to adopt job protections for bus workers as well as working with families to make sure students aren't left stranded.
Reliant drivers currently are responsible for transporting nearly 12,000 disabled NYC students 5 days a week.
